Deep Tissue and Trigger Point Release Therapy
Neuromuscular and Deep Tissue (and Trigger Point Release) Massage therapies are much more specific in the
treatment of muscle tissue trauma or injury. This therapy is very beneficial when clients complain of general or
specific pain or tenderness, as well as decreased muscle function in muscle groups. Pain and irritation will
often increase during certain times of the day and may also interfere with work, rest, sleep, or other activities.
Generally, these issues will be brought on by repetitive use, a strain or pull, or a change in activities and very
often just by an increase in stress levels. Using moderate to deep pressure the therapists movements will be
more specific to a muscle or group of muscles. It can be initially painful (a good pain), but when the pain
recedes the trigger point is released. At this point, the blood flow, oxygen, and nutrients can now reach this
area of the muscle to restore health to the muscle tissue. I like to think of a trigger point as a 'dam' and when
you create a crack or break in the dam, the force of the water eventually carries it away. Deep tissue,
